2010: Sustainability - Common Reality or green Fiction
The topic of “Green Business”, initiated in 2009, was to be continued and expanded in 2010. For us, an expansion of this subject was called for because not only the ecological components, but also the social and health-related aspects are essential to ensure sustainability. In consequence, the selection of speakers was particularly diverse.
A wide variety of angles and approaches to the subject of sustainability were addressed by several top speakers, ranging from Erich Sixt and Oliver Kleine of LEONARDO to McDonalds’ corporate spokesman Matthias Mehlen, from Jeff Archambault of Disney to Knut Zschiedrich of RWE and Petra Hesser of IKEA. The main focus throughout was on the contemplation of how serious the efforts of the various companies.
Again, one of the speakers stood out positively from the many excellent orators: the inspiring talk on ecological sustainability given by Nobel peace prize winner Al Gore brought the 800 visitors in the main tent to their feet.
In addition to the speeches, many guests had the opportunity to take a trial run in one of the two Tesla Roadsters provided by RWE or to visit the booths of the various participating companies. For the first time, a McCafé station was set up in the tent town specifically for the occasion, which enjoyed great popularity.
Apart from these diversions, a number of superb workshops took place in the university which were well attended. Topics ranged from burn-out prevention and financial sustainability to long-term employee motivation.
Subsequent to the event in 2010, the Campus Symposium team resolved to hold the conference every two years instead of annually. This step will enable us to assure the quality of the event in the long term, as well as giving us the opportunity to develop new, fresh ideas for our sponsors and visitors. There will consequently be lots for you to look forward to in 2012.
